Tips for sewing on clear vinyl

  • To increase visibility, cut a paper pattern for each piece and slip it under the vinyl.
  • Use a rotary cutter and quilter’s ruler when cutting.
  • Use a roller presser foot or a Teflon foot on your machine. Don’t have either one? Place gift-wrap transparent tape on the bottom of your presser foot and cut an opening in it for thread. Or cut strips of tissue and place them over seam lines as you sew to reduce drag. Remove paper after stitching.
  • Use a long stitch (3.0) and tie threads off rather than backstitching.
  • Creases and wrinkles can be removed by warming the vinyl with a blow dryer.
