1. Download & Print the Free CW Stocking Pattern
  2. Cut out pattern along solid line. Position it on the fabric so that the sweater’s ribbing is at the top edge. Pin pattern in place. Cut around pattern through both thicknesses of sweater fabric. Transfer seam allowance (dotted line) to fabric using chalk or water-soluble marking pen.
  3. With right sides together, stitch outside edge along calves, heel and toe, leaving the top edge open. Clip curves close to stitching. Turn right side out. (The ribbing, now at the top of the stocking, forms a built-in cuff.)
  4. For the hanging loop, cut a 1×6-in. rectangle of fabric from another part of the sweater, such as a sleeve. Fold in half lengthwise, right sides together. Sew along the long edge, using a 1/4-in. seam allowance. Leave short edges open. Turn right side out.
  5. Fold loop in half and sew raw edges together. Sew loop short edge to the inside back seam, about 1 in. from cuff edge.

Crafter’s Note: *If sweater is a wool blend, use it as is; if it is 100% wool, it can be felted: Machine wash in hot water and dry on hot cycle. Repeat 2-3 times until weave tightens.
